Dear Prospective Marist Volleyball Player:
First of all, the volleyball coaching staff would like to
welcome you to the Marist community. If you are interested in
playing next season, the following information will be very
helpful. If you are not sure volleyball is for you then open gym
is the perfect place to start. Open gyms are available for
incoming freshman, transfer students and returning players to
focus on skill development as well as get acquainted with each
other. Please check the summer
schedule so you and your family are aware of the upcoming dates.
We understand that some of you will still be in school or taking
finals so please do not feel pressure to be there early in June.
We also recognize that families take their vacations throughout
the summer, so enjoy your time together and come when you are in
town.
July 27 through July 30 is Spartan Camp. The
camp is available for 6th through 10th grades. This is a basic
skills camp and once again will allow you to get to know the
coaching staff and get a first hand look at our program. I would
suggest being active prior to attending camp to eliminate some
soreness. You can download the camp brochure on our
Summer Sports Camps page.
It is also imperative to workout these final few weeks of summer
if you have not been doing so already. Getting in shape prior to
daily doubles will make us physically stronger and better
players. This means avoiding nagging injuries during try-outs
and the season. Remember that something is always better than
nothing. We want to keep our program competitive and that
happens by players willing to work outside of the coaching
staff.
This year’s try-outs begin August 24. Please check the
summer schedule for times and
dates. The second week times will change so check with the
perspective coach once teams have been chosen. All students
interested in trying out must be at each session. We have daily
doubles for two weeks. We would ask that you bring the following
items to each practice session: Water bottle, 2 pairs of shoes
(one for indoor and outdoor), and kneepads since they are not
provided. I would also suggest you not wear new shoes that have
not been broken in for the whole practice and avoid carbonated
beverages. Please make sure you have the appropriate forms
turned in at the main office prior to the try-out dates. All
students are required to have physicals every two years. All
participants must have all forms turned in order to try-out. You
will not be allowed to try-out until the school has these forms
on file. If you have any questions you may email
spimental@marisths.org
or
pimental2873@comcast.net .
